Bread Feelings

Today had its ups and downs. I woke up this morning with a crazy sore throat, so Paul and I delayed our make friends with all the woodland creatures at Mt. Pisgah trip for another day. Another disappointment was that once I felt a little better we went to the farmer's market, but it was fifty degrees and overcast all morning and afternoon. It wasn't until I needed to take a rest in the evening that the sun got all cheery and bright. Maybe tomorrow I will make amends with the sunshine.

At the farmer's market Paul and I split this potato doughnut. I don't know the specifics on how to make a doughnut out of potatoes, but I must find out. This was dense and chewy and fluffy all at the same time. It was also quite lumpy shaped which I thought was cute. I spent the rest of my afternoon watching BBC period dramas and loved every minute.

Once I was up to it, we made my Auntie Robin's focaccia bread. I love leaving bread dough on the counter and finding it an hour later all puffed up and warm. Bread is good to me like that. I especially liked poking the holes in the dough. Paul was a gentleman and let me go crazy at it all by myself. Once it came out of the oven we could barely wait to eat it. We didn't wait long. Paul kept it simple and just dipped his in olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I went a little weird because I tend to do that. I made a Nutella and blackberry jam sandwich, which is delicious by itself. But then I added butterscotch chips to it, and the bread was still warm so the chips got all melty and it was wonderful. My taste buds may like strange things, but I swear anything would taste good on this bread.
